Frederick Kitchen Renovation – Bloomfield Hills Michigan

Challenged with creating a beautiful space for this family to call their forever home, we started with a recently remodeled, however poorly designed, MCM sprawling ranch home on a beautiful lot. The primary issues with the layout were in the kitchen area where walls were blocking views, styling was mismatched to the era of the house, and walkways were cramped. Here’s a before and after of the views based on someone standing in the kitchen:

Floor Plan Before and After showing demolished walls and enhanced views

As you can see above the sight lines have been drastically improved throughout the Kitchen-Dining-Living-Family Room. Also the powder room has gained some privacy with the entrance through the mudroom and easier access from the garage entrance. Another improvement is the guest suite no longer is opening right into the kitchen. Not seen in plan view is the major changes we made to the ceiling in the kitchen. Before there was a low ceiling over the breakfast nook as well as low soffits around the kitchen and a peaked ceiling in the kitchen that felt very disconnected from the style of the home.
Here’s a video walk-through of this space:
